Prepare for the worst (Narcan)
Opioid overdoses can be survived, but timing of treatment is paramount. For that reason, many in public safety and community services have begun to carry Narcan, a branded medication used to reverse the effects of opioids on the body. Having it available at the right time can make the difference between life and death.
If you know someone who is using opioids, overdose is always likely. Whether it’s prescription-based or obtained on the streets, overdose can happen to anyone who is using.
Worse yet, many drugs like Xanax and Oxycodone that are bought and sold outside of a pharmacy are counterfeit—fake pills created to look like other pharmaceuticals. Generally, these contain Fentanyl and overdose becomes even more likely.
How to obtain Narcan
ANF is working to assist individuals and organizations with Narcan. We will be updating this page as this initiative progresses.
Until then, you can obtain Narcan in several ways:
Your Pharmacy
According to Narcan’s website:
Although NARCAN® Nasal Spray is a prescription medication, all states have passed laws to increase access to naloxone in the community and in homes where opioids are present.
In every state, residents can purchase NARCAN® Nasal Spray directly from a pharmacist under a Statewide Naloxone Standing Order or Collaborative Practice Agreement. State laws may vary.
